How it's calculated

Yearly = Hourly × Hours per week × Paid weeks
Monthly = Yearly ÷ 12 · Semi-monthly = Yearly ÷ 24 · Biweekly = Yearly ÷ 26 Weekly and daily figures use your paid weeks and days per week.

Worked example

$30 an hour, 40 hours a week, 52 weeks:
  • Yearly = $30 × 40 × 52 = $62,400
  • Monthly = $5,200 · Biweekly = $2,400 · Weekly = $1,200
  • A $60,000 salary works out to about $28.85 an hour.

Common questions

Why is biweekly pay not the same as twice-monthly?

Biweekly means 26 paychecks a year; semi-monthly means 24. Biweekly checks are slightly smaller, but there are two months a year with three paychecks.

What about overtime and taxes?

This converts base pay only. To see what you'd actually take home after taxes, try the Is It Worth It? calculator, which estimates your after-tax hourly pay.
