How it's calculated

Needed on final = (Target − Current × (1 − Weight)) ÷ Weight Weight is the final's share of your grade as a decimal (30% = 0.30). Your current grade counts for the rest.

Worked example

You have an 85% and the final is worth 25%. To finish with an 80%: (80 − 85 × 0.75) ÷ 0.25 = (80 − 63.75) ÷ 0.25 = 65% on the final.
What if it says I need more than 100%?

That target isn't reachable on the final alone. Extra credit, a curve, or a different target may be options; ask your teacher.

My class uses points, not percentages.

Turn points into a percentage first: points earned ÷ points possible × 100.

Disclosures
