Boy or Girl? Chinese & Mayan Gender Predictor
Two famous old traditions, one answer each. Do they agree? Enter your dates and find out.
The predictions
These are folk traditions, right about half the time, like a coin flip. Only an ultrasound or a medical test can tell you your baby's sex.
The Chinese gender chart
Rows are mom's lunar age at conception; columns are the lunar month of conception. Your square is outlined.
How it's calculated
Mayan method: mom's age at conception + year of conception → even = girl, odd = boy
Worked example
How the two methods work
Chinese gender chart
Legend says the chart was found in a royal tomb near Beijing hundreds of years ago. It uses two things: the mother's lunar age at conception (in the traditional count, you're 1 at birth and a year older every Lunar New Year) and the lunar month of conception. We convert your regular dates to the Chinese lunar calendar for you.
Mayan method
Add the mother's age at conception to the year of conception. An even number predicts a girl; an odd number predicts a boy.
Common questions
Is it accurate?
No. Researchers who tested the Chinese chart against real births found it right about 50% of the time, the same as guessing. Enjoy it as a fun tradition.
Why is my lunar age different from my real age?
The traditional count starts at 1 at birth and adds a year at each Lunar New Year, so your lunar age is usually 1 or 2 years more than your regular age.
I don't know my conception date.
That's normal! Choose "Due date" or "Last period" and we'll estimate it. Conception is usually about two weeks after the first day of your last period.
